Privacy Policy

1. Purpose

This policy explains how 'The Actor Database' (the "Site," "we") collects, uses, and protects personal information in the course of its operations, in compliance with Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (Law 25).

2. Information we collect

Public site visitors. When you browse the Site, our server automatically records, for security and operational purposes: your IP address, your user agent (browser/device type), and the page requested. There are no visitor accounts, no contact form or newsletter collecting your details, and the Site does not set any tracking, advertising, or analytics cookies.

Administrator accounts. Staff authorized to manage the Site's content have a password-protected account (username, hashed password, role, login history). A technical session cookie, required for authentication, is set only when the administration area is in use — never for public-site visitors.

Actor profiles. The Site publishes biographical information (name, biography, date of birth, place of birth, filmography, photographs) about public performers, drawn from public sources. This information is not collected directly from the individuals concerned; it is compiled for public reference and informational purposes.

3. Purposes of collection

  • Ensuring the security, stability, and technical logging of the Site;
  • Administering and moderating the Site's content (staff accounts);
  • Providing the public with reference profiles of performers, for informational purposes.

We do not use any personal information for targeted advertising, commercial profiling, or automated decision-making that produces effects on an individual.

4. Disclosure to third parties

We do not sell or rent any personal information. No information is shared with third parties except where required by law. Information shown on actor profiles is drawn from public APIs queried by our server; no visitor data is sent to them in the process.

5. Retention

Technical server logs are kept for a limited period, only as long as necessary for security purposes, and are then deleted or anonymized. Information related to administrator accounts is kept for the duration of the employment or mandate relationship, then deleted.

6. Security measures

Passwords are encrypted (hashed), connections to the Site are protected by HTTPS, security headers reduce common attack risks, and administrative access is protected against repeated login attempts.

7. Your rights

Under Law 25, you have the right to:

  • access the personal information we hold about you and obtain a copy;
  • request correction of information that is inaccurate, incomplete, or ambiguous;
  • withdraw your consent to the collection or use of information, where that use relies on consent;
  • if you are an individual whose profile is published on the Site (a performer), request that the dissemination of information about you cease, or that it be de-indexed, where that dissemination causes you serious injury and that injury is clearly disproportionate to the public's interest in knowing the information, or where the information is disseminated in violation of the law;
  • file a complaint with the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec (CAI) if you believe your rights have not been respected.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at superdeeid+theactordatabase@gmail.com. We will respond within the timelines required by law.

8. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The date of the last update appears below.
